Former Pro Joao Correia Launches inGamba Tours

Joao Correia has enjoyed an interesting cycling trajectory. As a young racer, Correia enjoyed much success, but dropped out of the professional peloton at age 21 to head to college. Eventually settling into a career in publishing—and gaining nearly 60 pounds—Correia would eventually end up as associate publisher of Bicycling magazine, before quitting his desk job and starting a diet in order to rejoin the professional peloton at age 32.

After spending a year racing for the Cervelo Test Team, Correia was dropped plenty, but proved that with a little discipline and some serious training, a lot is possible.

Now, his comeback behind him, Joao has started his next endeavour, inGamba Tours. Italian for ‘In the Know’ inGamba marries Correia’s passion for food and drink with his love of cycling.

“We created inGamba after years of organizing events for friends that were exactly the kind of trips we wanted to take ourselves,” said Correia. “On an inGamba trip, you’re likely to be riding next to a world champion or other top professional taking a break from racing’s biggest events. And, we don’t just roll through a town—we get into the fabric of the community, using our knowledge and connections to cultivate a unique travel experience. Our guests can relish the cuisine, the culture, and especially the wine as only a local can.”

inGamba will host 22 trips in 2012 in North America and Europe, starting in April with The Spring Classics: Tour of Flanders and Roubaix. Trips are set to run throughout the season and will include amazing rides down the California coast and around Italy’s historic L’Eroica ride. Every inGamba adventure is highlighted by a level of attention usually reserved for professional racers, including support from an experienced race mechanic, massages from a professional masseuse, and the use of a professional level race bike.
