Jimmy Button, a former Factory Yamaha motocross racer, hopes to raise a million dollars for spinal cord research by riding his bicycle across America this coming February.
During a practice run for an AMA Supercross event on January 22, 2000, Button had a crash that left him paralyzed from the neck down for several months. Since then, Button has regained most of the use in his arms and legs. This injury has categorized him as an incomplete quadriplegic.
Button’s trans-continental ride will start at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium on February 20, 2011 and will finish 2428 miles later in Daytona Beach, Florida. Button and his foundation—The Road 2 Recovery’s Miles for Miracles—has signed on with Sette Bicycles to be the official bike supplier for the riders.
