Nuun Kona Cola – A Pleasant Chilly Weather Drink

By: Ryan LaBar

It’s hardly a secret that, when the mercury starts to drop, experienced riders often fill their bottles with flat Coca-Cola. Nuun recognized this, and added a caffeinated cola flavored option to its line of electrolyte replacement drinks.

Nuun has accomplished the hearty but clean cola flavor that cold-weather riders tend to crave without funky aftertastes or mouth-coating sticky residues. Aside from their pleasant flavor, the effervescent tablets are packed with 20 milligrams of caffeine and essential electrolytes (including sodium, potassium and magnesium), but no sugar (they contain just 3 calories). The caffeine provides a smooth buzz, while the lack of sugar offers a refreshing not-too-sweet flavor and eliminates the dreaded sugar crash.

We recommend the Kona Cola flavored Nuuns for chilly days and at the end of long rides, but the lack of stickiness and sugar makes them a fine anytime choice for riders sick of citrus or berry flavors.

It should also be noted that these little guys do wonders for hangovers.

Nuun Kola Kola: Just get some, really. Nuun is the cure for the common mid-afternoon fade and the common “blah”. Get some. I’m not kidding.
