Katie Compton Returns to Red, Will Race for Trek in 2013

Returning to SRAM Red after a one-year hiatus, cyclocross star Katie Compton (that’s @KatieFnCompton on Twitter—use your imagination to replace the missing characters between the F and n in her handle) will also be riding for the new Trek Cyclocross Race Team for the 2012-13 season.

KfC is nothing but effusive in her praise for her gruppo of choice. “I missed my SRAM RED. Last year I was not racing on RED and I was dropping my chain regularly, I couldn’t be sure of when I shifted, and I just never had a good feeling,” Compton said. “My first ride back on RED and everything just clicked into place, I felt like I was home again. I had my most fun ride in a year, it was 34 degrees and raining, and I rode for three hours and loved it.“

Compton will of course be on the latest iteration of RED, debuted in February. Significantly lighter, the group becomes even more ‘cross-friendly with significant ergonomic improvements as well as drastically improved front shifting. She’ll pair the new Red levers with Avid’s Shorty Ultimate brakes, although that could definitely change when SRAM introduces its highly anticipated hydraulic levers.

More information regarding the new Trek Cyclocross Race Team will come with the team’s official announcement on August 1.
