John Behrens, an active member of the Southern California cycling community, was recently involved in a car vs. cyclist incident that caused him to suffer from a couple broken vertebrae, shattered pelvis, punctured lung, broken ribs, and a bruised kidney and spleen. So far he has been in the hospital under sedation for a week and has undergone two major surgeries on his neck and pelvis. This was a no-fault accident, so all of the expenses need to be paid out of John’s pocket.
There’s currently a donation page setup through Active, and Bailey Bikes–a bike brand based out of San Diego, of which Behrens is affiliated–a is doing a pretty cool promotion to encourage people to donate: Anyone pledging $700 or more will get a new, yet to be released 2013 full carbon cross frame when they arrive in August. Disc or Canti. That’s a brand new Bailey for half off retail while helping Behrens with his medial expenses.
