Spurred by the original 200 on 100 ride, which traveresed the entire length of Vermont on Route 100, the 200 not on 100 takes the 200-mile distance, but throws in a different route, and a charitable cause. And fluff. Way more fluff…
200 Not On 100
The 2012 Edition of the 200 Not On 100, staring Ted King, Tim Johnson, and Ryan Kelly.
Living in New England cycling lore, the original 200 On 100 ride tackles the 200+ miles, running the north-south length of Vermont, entirely along Route 100. Tim Johnson and Ted King, cycling buddies and consummate professional cyclists in their own disciplines, had talked about pulling off this New England classic for entirely too long. But talk is cheap and coincidentally so is their pay to the support crew who could help tag along, manage logistics (ahem, driving a car and filling up water bottles), and burn a mid-summer day for Tim and Ted’s excellent adventures. Chiding Ryan Kelly for having ridden a 200 mile charity ride just two days before, Tim and Ted coerced their cat 2 buddy to join their mini peloton, along with Chandler Delinks serving as the irreplaceable support crew.
For those who intricately know the state of Vermont know that it offers something special. Ted, for example, found cycling while attending college in the heart of the Green Mountains and cut his amateur teeth amid these Appalachian Mountains. The ravaging effects of Hurricane Irene were painfully on display during their ride many months after the storm and even now years later, are devastatingly still seen today. Vermont provided us a great deal on that stunning summer day and we wanted to give back. Raising nearly $2,000 through sales of the Dumptruck Full of Awesome t-shirts and generous donations, we gave all profits to the Vermont Food Bank.
There are big group rides. There are legendary cycling buddy-buddy rides. There are simply epic rides you’ll remember for a lifetime. The 200 On 100 was all this and more stretched the length of Vermont and then compacted into one.
Version 2.0, the 200 Not On 100 kickstarted something big. Professional cycling is often a very selfish pursuit. In order to find success you need to focus heavily on yourself. While no doubt still an awesome two-wheeled adventure, we saw an opportunity with the 200 Not On 100 and further event as an obvious chance to help.
The 2012 event brought the gang back together, plus a larger support crew, an awesome 6am send off from Burlington, tremendous support along the way, and an emotional arrival at Scratch Baking Co. in Portland. Moreover, we took this chance to help suppert the wildfire singed state of Colorado.
